Our review
Before the beautyblender, foundation went on with a brush or fingers. This egg-shaped sponge popularized 'bouncing' product onto skin instead of dragging it, and the result is a far more natural finish.
When wet it doubles in size and absorbs very little product, so your foundation ends up on your face, not the sponge. The tip handles under-eyes and around the nose; the rounded side, the rest of the face.
Cheap dupes have improved a lot and that's the big debate: the original is softer, more even and lasts longer, but it costs about $16 per sponge and should be replaced every few months.
How to use
Wet the sponge, squeeze out the water and bounce foundation on with light taps, without dragging. Wash after each use.
